The conception of Carmel Now came from Westport Connecticut, where we lived for over 11 years. They had a wonderful online daily news and information site which talked about everything, from the community to real estate sales and teardowns to Town Hall happenings, politics, comings and goings and so much more. When we first moved to Connecticut it was such a wonderful way to keep up with the happenings of the day-to-day news. Westport is 45 minutes outside of New York City and is known as Cosmopolitan Town with waterways of the Saugatuck, Compo Beach and the best restaurants from Chefs from Manhattan.  Westport is made up of Finance Companies like Bridge Water, one of the largest Hedge Funds in the World and most residents work in NYC either in Finance or Wall Street Industry. We have two Train Stations leading right into Grand Central Station, a 50-minute train ride from Westport. The rest of are vacation homes where Manhattan Residents have their second or third homes in Westport and come seasonally.   When we arrived in Carmel the first thing I did was seek online local news because I’m such a techie I like everything online or in an app, but I didn’t find anything, and because both my husband and I are all about digital, Carmel Now was conceived.

Founder: Susanna Von Hoover

Her career started as an agent for an Italian menswear manufacturer at the California Mart in Los Angeles. Her travels crisscrossed the globe with destinations including major metropolitan U.S. cities, and Milan and Paris; acquiring insider knowledge of the wholesale & factory biz and overall Fashion Industry. Next up – shattering sales records at a women’s clothing retailer as Director of 18 brick & mortar stores in Los Angles; she then was recruited by a high-profile art gallery in San Francisco which proved to be a proverbial life-changer. It was there – in the heart of the SF Bay Area’s booming IT industry – that she met her husband and jumped full-force with him into the world of web & Internet development. From their garage to an office of 35 employees to a production facility in India, she and her husband were soon splitting time between San Francisco & India.

After India, they moved to Westport Connecticut which is 45 minutes outside of Manhattan. She and her husband bought a barn and renovated it. Her husband started a Web Agency Element 8 Design and worked both in Fairfield County and NYC.  Susanna took a break and went to Florence Italy for 4 months and started exploring the idea of starting an online antique & vintage marketplace. When she returned back to Westport the project got off the ground.

She Founded Second Shout Out/Omero Home launched August 15, 2012, a curated online antique and vintage marketplace with more than 300 vendors from around the world and a product line of more than 4 million products added to the Marketplace. In July 2015 the name was changed from Second Shout Out to Omero Home to better fit their product Line. Omero focused on home furnishings and decor inspired by nostalgia and tradition. In 7 1/2 years, being named the ‘Best Online Marketplace to Shop” by both Huffington Post and Marie Claire Magazine, and worked with some of the biggest designers in the Industry and Prominent Families like the Rothschilds, Rockefeller’s, Tommy Hilfiger and Architects Becken Gillam and their Designer Leslie Hemmings and many more.  Omero Home Company developed a membership base of over 5 million in just 7 ½ years. In October 2018,  Omero Home sold its content to a company in Hamburg Germany.

They sold their Barn in Westport Connecticut after 11 years of living on the East Coast and moved back to her husband’s home town in Carmel-by-the-Sea, where he born and raised. They now reside in a beautiful Carmel Cottage with their Jack Russell.
